Homeowner Rehabilitation and Adaptations
Home repairs for homeowners in Nelson County is a primary focus for NCCDF. We have a variety of funds available to us to assist homeowners in repairing their homes and maintaining safety levels, accessibility, and affordability. As a member of the Consortium of Housing Directors of the Thomas Jefferson Planning District (PD 10), NCCDF has access to state funding for home repairs and adaptations. We also find additional grant funds and funds from individuals to allow us to be flexible when meeting the community needs.
Requirements:
At a minimum, families must be income-qualified (under 80% AMI), they must own the home and it must be their primary residence. Different funding sources have different requirements and we will determine that in the application/assessment process.
Process:
Homeowners requesting assistance should contact our offices or fill out an application online by clicking the button on this page. Once the application process is complete, our staff will assess the household’s financial situation and the home for the requested repairs. If we are able to assist, then we will determine the best way to fund the repair or adaptation. The use of specific funds and whether it is a grant or a payable loan will depend on the necessary repairs and the household financial situation. We cannot help everyone as we have limited resources, and our process can take time to complete.
We will address repairs including major systems such as septic repairs, roofs, ramps, bathroom repairs and modifications, deck replacements, and heating and air conditioning installation and repairs. We do not do cosmetic repairs such as painting unless it is part of a larger project. We also do not repair sheds or do landscaping.
