St. James Place is Really in Piney River

It's true that St. James Place is really in Piney River and not in Roseland, but it's served by the Roseland Post Office and that's why we say Roseland.

If you don't know the area, St. James Church Road is the first left off of Rt. 151 once you've taken your right from Rt. 56. But the address of our apartments are actually St. James Place.

These apartments are truly charming, offering 2-bedroom layouts with either one or two bathrooms. Each unit includes a fully equipped kitchen with a stove, microwave, dishwasher, and refrigerator, along with electric central heating and air for year-round comfort. The apartments are connected to the Piney River septic system and use well water, so there is no water bill. Tenants are responsible for electricity, while NCCDF covers the Service Authority charge. Rent will be capped at $900 and adjusted based on each tenant’s income. We are currently working through our waitlist as we prepare to lease the units. We’re aiming to have the apartments completed by the end of March! The weather hasn’t exactly been on our side, and we recently ran into a sewer line break when the AEP subcontractor started digging. But things are finally starting to move, and we’re excited to wrap these projects up soon.

We also know many of you are eager to hear about our matching grant fundraising! For those who are new to our work, we have a Perry Foundation Grant to help finish these apartments. The grant is for $65,000, but we need to raise a matching amount before we can access the funds. That’s where you come in! Every dollar you donate toward this match becomes $2 for the project—so your support really doubles its impact and helps bring much-needed housing to Nelson.

So far, we've had 72 individuals donate more than $28,500 including folks who are giving tributes to the life of Tim Hess who passed away earlier this year. We've had 32 individuals (families & couples too) give $7,600 to this effort in Tim's memory. We are so grateful! In addition to these donors, we've also had more than $10,000 donated through grants for a grand total of $38,897 - almost 60% of the match! We appreciate all the donations and all of the support we've had in the community. If you wish to donate, here's the link to donation site. Feel free to forward this to your friends and family as well. Thank you all so much.
