December Update on St. James Place Apartments
Aaaaand winter - even though it's technically still not winter! -- is here!
Weather often thwarts our best laid plans, and we are being challenged to get as creative as possible to finish off the apartments. Since they are modular, there is not that much to do, but the devil is in the details. It's amazing how time consuming hurricane clips can be to install! And one bad weather day translates into several days of waiting for conditions to be better, not to mention dark evenings and very cold temperatures. However, with all the delays, we are slowly getting it done.
Even with the delays in construction, we were able to open a special waitlist for these apartments. More than thirty five applicants signed up for a chance to rent one of the four apartments and we are working now to contact the first few, give them a chance to apply and sign a lease with us. If you were one of the people who applied, we will reach out to you either as your name comes up or after we've signed leases with four families to let you know that the opportunity is gone. We understand the extreme need for housing that working families can afford - both to rent to and buy. NCCDF has forty years of experience working to create housing scenarios for families in Nelson and we continue to do that today.
We appreciate the support of the community in creating these apartments. We are still raising money to match the Perry Foundation grant that will provide the gap funds needed to fully pay for these apartments. We've raised more than $21,000 toward it to date and have until June to raise the balance of nearly $44,000 (to match the $65,000). Every dollar counts for two in this scenario and they all add up. Thank you if you've already given, and if you haven't, we hope you'll consider giving today.
Happy Holidays to all!
